Contouring and highlighting the face is something I really advocate. It’s a great way to highlight your best facial features as well as “hide” the not so nice ones. Also, as a makeup artist, it is also one of the most-asked questions I get. “How do you contour your face properly?”
See it’s not just about contouring, you also need to pair it with highlighting and most importantly, knowing your face shape. The goal of this technique is to closely resemble an Oval-faced shape, because it is the ideal face shape for women. And let me stress the word IDEAL. It doesn’t mean the perfect one, but just the ideal or inspiration.
One of the inspiring images of sculpting your face via contouring and highlighting that I have found is from Kevyn Aucoin’s book, Making Faces. Here is the illustrated that inspired women to be brave enough and use this makeup technique.
I love Kevin Aucoin and I think he illustrated the technique best. But, most women believe this is the best way to do it. They forget that each facial shape is different from another. I found another image on Pinterest long ago which would show the best way to contour and highlight most faces.
The image also shows the best way to apply your blush based on each face shape. So check it out and find which technique would suit your beauty best.
Have fun, it’s just makeup! We are all uniquely beautiful, inside and out!
