One of my favorite things about makeup is it has the power to transform the looks of a person. Women can tap their inner sultry self or show their sweet side. But it’s not just women who benefit from makeup’s transformation powers. There are men too! Well, in this case, we call them queens. Drag Queen that is.
Whenever I catch the show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, I am amazed by how these queens can transform themselves. The amount of skill and creativity to come up with the makeup looks, the clothes, and the confidence. I am just amazed. Then I stumbled upon the collection of photos showing the before and after transformations of New York City drag queens by photographer Leland Bobbé. I am just in awe!
So I started researching more about Drag Queens and realized that is more of an art rather than a lifestyle. In an article from Huffington Post, the myths and some of my beliefs about drag queens were debunked! It was like getting my head hit and having light-bulb moment at the same time.
I love makeup! I love going to makeup counters to look at what’s new and I especially love trying them out! Well, ok, maybe some of them are just new discoveries and not really new in the market. Nevertheless, it is discovering great products that really work for you that is more exciting.
Recently, I had some amazing discoveries and I just want to share them with you…
Let me start off with my loot from L’oreal…
What I like about this liquid liner is the applicator. It’s not a brush but a soft kind of rubbery applicator. Also, it is super waterproof once it dries. I have oily skin and oily lids. When I used this liquid liner I didn’t have any problem with it smudging even with the humid weather. It’s also very easy to apply thanks to the applicator.
The Double Extension Curl is one of those waterproof mascara with a two step application. You begin with the Flexing + Curling Base and then proceed with the Ultra-lengthening + Curling Mascara. The liquid liner and mascara is a good combo.
Meanwhile, I have heard some good things about the True Match liquid foundation so I just had to try it for myself.
It has a great light to medium coverage that is perfect for daily wear. I enjoy how smooth it goes when applied and it’s really light weight. The only downside is the bottle because it doesn’t have any pump. So I have to pour a bit on the back of my hand to get some products out. Then I use a foundation brush to apply it.
Watch out for Part 2…

I’ve observed that Filipinas tend to be more concern about their eyebrows and their under eye area. I’ve been often asked what’s a good and affordable under eye concealer and eyebrow pencils. These two products are also something you can take with you in your makeup kit, in case you would need to touch up before those after-work get-togethers.
Recently, I’ve found some good products that you may want to give a try.
Last Saturday I had a full social day. Morning I did my usual writing and by lunch time I was preparing for my afternoon date with the boyfriend. And by dinner time, I’ll be joining the rest of the family for my Papa’s post birthday celebration (his birthday was on June 10).
So taking to consideration I had a full day, and wouldn’t have the time to change my makeup for the night, I went ahead and applied a makeup look that’s appropriate for the afternoon and would last until the evening. Here’s what I came up with:
Have you ever bought a makeup or beauty product and don’t like it the first time you used it? Well, I had that experience when I bought the L’oreal Magic Smooth Souffle foundation in the shade Nude Beige. I bought it in Target when I went to L.A. last year.
When I first used it, I thought that I got the wrong shade cause it was a little bit lighter on my skin. So I set it aside in my makeup pile. It wasn’t until I purchased a flat-top foundation brush from Suesh that I considered trying it out again.
When I learned to properly groom my eyebrows, my obsession to perfect my eyebrow grooming routine also started. This means buying numerous eyebrow products.
I mean you only need 3-4 really good ones, but it seems like I have a handful. Depending on my mood, and the look I want to create I change back and forth to certain types of products: wax, pencil, and powder ones.
Most days I’m consistent, like using the same product for a week, then I change it up just because I want to test out how I would use the other products.
Being the eyebrow obsessed and compulsive buyer that I am, I bought something new recently. Here’s the Billion Dollar Brows’ Universal Brow Pencil and Brow Brush.
So I spent some limited time in Beijing last week, the cold was all I could really remember distinctly. The wind blew and sent shivers to my spine, making my teeth clatter. But, even when I feel like frozen on the ground I’m standing on, I still had to look good.
I’ll share with you my favorite looks for the short trip.
Aside from being a professional makeup artist, I am also a certified makeup junkie! That’s why I decided to be on a makeup-purchase fasting for January 2013. I absolutely did not buy any makeup products whether it was for personal or professional use. It was a challenge but I had to be practical, since I spent a lot last Holiday season for gifts and personal nonsense. I had to cut back on something. Plus it was a good practice to eradicate my compulsive shopping trait.
If I would compare my personal makeup collection with my professional makeup artist’s kit, I have a limited one as you can see in my previous post. I realized I have few eyeshadow shades. Of course, I have my neutral palette in the form of Naked 1, then I have a more colorful one which is Urban Decay’s Smoked palette. But that’s almost about it. And I kind of got tired with the usual shades I wear everyday, then I spotted my favorite bronzer from The Balm.
